You Were Made to Fly, So Why Are You Still Waddling?

Stop Waddling - A story by Søren Kierkegaard

"Once upon a time there was a town of ducks.
Every Sunday morning, the ducks waddled out of their houses and waddled into church.
They sang their duck hymns, said their duck prayers, and listened attentively to the duck minister.
One Sunday, the minister delivered a powerful sermon.
"Ducks, you were born to fly. God has given you wings to soar like eagles. Fly, ducks, fly!"
The congregation erupted with excitement.
"Amen!"
"Preach it!"
"What a message!"
When the service ended, the ducks lined up to thank the minister for his inspiring words.
Then they all waddled home."
The story is humorous, but it carries a challenging truth.
How often do we do the same thing?
We fill our minds with truth. We attend church. We listen to sermons, podcasts, and Bible studies. We nod our heads in agreement when we hear God's promises. We say "Amen" to messages about faith, courage, forgiveness, generosity, and purpose.
Yet when Monday comes, we often return to the same fears, the same excuses, and the same patterns.
We know God calls us to trust Him, but we worry.
We know He calls us to forgive, but we hold on to resentment.
We know He calls us to serve, but we stay comfortable.
We know He says we are loved, chosen, and created with purpose, but we continue living as if those truths aren't really for us.
The ducks believed they could fly while they were sitting in church.
They just never used their wings.
Faith was never meant to be something we merely agree with. Scripture tells us that we are to be doers of the Word, not hearers only. God doesn't simply invite us to admire truth—He invites us to live it.
The Good News is that God doesn't ask us to fly on our own strength. The same God who gives us wings also gives us the courage to use them. He walks with us when we step out in faith, even when we're uncertain or afraid.
So the question isn't whether God has given you wings.
He has.
The question is: where in your life are you still waddling?
Maybe it's a dream you've been afraid to pursue.
Maybe it's a relationship that needs healing.
Maybe it's a step of faith you've been postponing.
Maybe it's simply believing that God's promises apply to you, too.
This week, don't just admire the message, use your wings.
"Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles."
Isaiah 40:31
